Rosacea Awareness Month

April is Rosacea Awareness Month, we want to mention some triggers for people with rosacea and how to help calm the redness in the skin. This is a common skin issue we see from our clients. Does this sound like you?

The main characteristic of the Rosacea skin type is that there will be permanent patches of redness or blotchiness. This is caused by over-sensitive blood vessels responding to stimuli more than is normal. Over time, these little capillaries stop shrinking back to their normal size and can be seen through the skin at all times.

Many triggers can cause the skin to flush but the most common are alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, and extremes of temperature.

  • When choosing skincare always go for products that are completely fragrance and artificial colour-free.

  • Any potential irritants can set up a reaction deep in your skin that will show over time as increased redness, even if they feel just fine on application, so it is very important to be as gentle as possible in dealing with this skin type and always err on the side of caution.

  • We don’t advise the use of granular type or AHA exfoliators with this skin type.

  • If you feel that you must exfoliate, then a gentle enzyme exfoliator is the best option.

  • Avoid clay-based masks that dry on the face and thick, rich moisturizers.

Solution?

The best ingredients to look out for for soothing and strengthening the skin barrier are peptides, hyaluronic acid, aloe, green tea, niacinamide, algae, and allantoin.

The products we recommend are Osmosis Rescue MD and Osmosis Calm.

🌟  June is Acne Awareness Month! 🌟

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. You’re not alone!

Tips to help manage and reduce acne effectively:

✳️ Visit an Acne Certified Esthetician and Follow Their Recommendations: Seeing a professional esthetician can provide you with a personalized skincare plan. They can offer treatments like facials, extractions, and peels, and recommend products tailored to your skin type and condition.

✳️ Drink Plenty of Water: Staying hydrated helps maintain your skin’s health. Water flushes out toxins and keeps your skin moisturized from the inside, which can help reduce the severity of acne.

✳️ Healthy Lifestyle: Eat a balanced diet and manage stress. These can significantly impact your skin’s health.

✳️ Avoid Touching Your Face: Touching your face can transfer oils, dirt, and bacteria from your hands to your skin, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Be mindful of this habit and try to keep your hands away from your face.

✳️ Change Pillowcases and Towels Frequently: Dirty pillowcases and towels can harbor bacteria and oils that contribute to acne. Change your pillowcases and towels every few days to ensure they stay clean and don’t transfer dirt and oil to your skin.

✳️ Be Consistent, BE PATIENT: Effective acne treatment takes time. Stick to your skincare routine consistently, as it may take several weeks to see noticeable improvements. Patience and persistence are key to achieving clearer skin.

✳️ Stop Using Viral Products: Not all products that go viral on social media are effective or suitable for your skin. Many viral products may contain harsh ingredients that can irritate your skin. Stick to products recommended by professionals or those specifically designed for acne-prone skin.
